What is Main Street?
Main Street America leads a collaborative movement with partners and grassroots leaders that advances shared prosperity, creates resilient economies, and improves quality of life through place-based economic development and community preservation in downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts across the country. Founded as the National Main Street Center® in 1980, Main Street America has helped to generate over $115.27 billion in local reinvestment, rehab 345,801 buildings, create 815,894 new jobs, and start 181,647 new businesses in over 2,000 communities.
Preserving Heritage, Cultivating Community
We are dedicated to the vibrant revitalization of Towson's historic districts. By bridging meticulous preservation with innovative community development, we foster local commerce and ensure our architectural legacy serves as a foundation for a thriving, connected future.
Measured Impact, Meaningful Success
Inclusive and Belonging
Making sure all our residents, business owners, students, vistors and everyone in between feels welcomed and they are a major part of this community.
Historic Preservation
Towson also has a history of invention and innovation. We are the birthplace of both handheld power tools (Black & Decker) and occupational therapy (Sheppard Pratt Hospital). The Baltimore County library system, headquartered in Towson, has an international reputation for innovation in library services. For more historic information vist Towson Walking Tour
Community Development
Through dedicated grants, we enhance our neighborhood by funding vital projects like facade updates, artistic murals, sidewalk cleaning, and safety programs.
